Roller Skiing Comes to Arbroath

,

We are really excited to announce that we are piloting a small rollerski programme at the Club over the coming weeks/months.  Given the minimal requirement for facilities or snow, just nice smooth tarmac of which Arbroath and the surrounding area has plenty, we believe it has a lot of potential.  Roller skiing is a brilliant way to exercise outdoors.  It is great for building fitness (and therefore shifting some of those lockdown pounds we all seem to have gained!).  If demand is there from our membership the committee will work hard to gain funding to develop an inclusive rollerski programme in Angus.

So what’s it all about?

Roller skiing takes place on smooth surfaces such as park paths, roads, cycle and athletics tracks and mirrors the techniques used in cross country skiing. It is a low-impact, full-body exercise that is great for core body strength, balance and overall fitness.  It uses short skis which have a small wheel on the tip and the tail.  The movement is not dissimilar to inline skating – just with bigger equipment on your feet!

The Sessions

We have secured funding to purchase a small amount of kit to deliver these sessions.  The equipment pool, and the additional precautions we have to put in place to deliver a COVID-safe session, means we cannot set up lesson bookings in the usual way.  As such we are asking you to share your expression of interest so we can consider all these factors when creating groups.

The sessions will take place at the following days and times:

  • Block 1 – Tuesday 8, 15, 22, 29 September 2020, 6pm – 7.30pm
  • Block 2 – Tuesday 6, 13, 20 and 27 October 2020, 6pm – 7.30pm

The sessions will take place in Arbroath at the West Links.

The cost will be £9.40 per week (plus PayPal fees) which includes instruction and hire of roller skis and boots.  Participants must provide their own helmet (bike helmet is prefect, but other helmets also accepted).  We also recommend a light pair of gloves (fingerless are great) to help protect hands and wrists.
